Really a nice machine, i think you will be satisfied with the mac, i also have a Macbook Pro and i will never change back to a windows system…

Too bad you already ordered: I would have tons of argument in favor of a PC laptop (Sony Vaio for me) running Ubuntu (Linux) against a Mac and OS X.

@YogSothoth: we all know that for every argument you can find out against a Mac anybody can find one in the other way. It’s useless to argue on operating systems. I use Ubuntu, OSX, XP and Vista and I’m happy 🙂

i run fiesty on a clunky dell. half price hardware, and i think fiesty can easily be configured to provide 90% of the UI experience of os-x. i actually think linux desktop has closed the gap on microsoft’s windows line and will surpass osx within the next 3-5 years. linux space is bound to out-create a few dozen top designers and coders that innovate for apple.

Very exciting news Antonio … of course you know I’m biased. Even though a Windows box still does about 60% of my day job, I’d rather sit in front of the 17″ mbp and use remote desktop or a virtual machine. And for the other 30% of my day job I use Linux for, I just use Chicken of the VNC or another virtual machine. Then in the evening, the mac does 100% of the music/design stuff. my thinkpad is sadly neglected, the pc desktop at work does most of the heavy lifting.

The debate about mac vs pc vs linux/unix will never end, but for me, with a history as a usability/design guy, the whole package of the mac user experience is what won me over. Maybe as macs continue to catch up with pcs in terms of ubiquitous application support, appeal to developers, speed/power/etc, and of course design and marketing, we’ll see the increase in mac market share continue. i hope so.

of course the switch over to a linux/unix-type base with an actual command line was a big thing for me too at first, satisfied my geeky need for access to a command line, but since i switched the only thing i’ve used the terminal for is ssh sessions into other machine.

Relax. You made a great choice. I’ve owned my Macbook Pro for a few months now and it is the best computer I’ve ever owned. I have a lot of respect for the Linux guys–they are making a great choice too. Of course, we can run Linux using Parallels (or Win XP if we’re desperate).
