thanks for contributing a link to the CTP. It’s a good thing and I hope that it’ll help some SQL Server users. However keep in mind that according to the Microsoft page:

“_These packages have been made available for general testing purposes only. Do not deploy the CTP software in production_”

So there may be some time still before seeing the real thing.

As far as I know there have been a few reports of SQL Server issues with Vista, and the article I linked even “made the front page of Slashdot”:http://slashdot.org/articles/06/12/16/1512210.shtml.
I also based my statement “will have to wait” (despite the SP may solve “these issues”:http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/windowsvistasupport.mspx) on the fact that Microsoft clearly warns users not to use the software for anything but testing. I would think that this leads any reasonable person to believe that it may not be “production ready” yet.

There is no FUD spreading intended. I care about being intellectually honest, and if you’re right about SQL Server on Vista, I’d be happy to hear about how developers won’t have to wait to use their favorite database server in a production setting.

XML is Everywhere! This phrase or something similar has been floating around often referring to the pureXML support in DB2 9. Microsoft has reinforced IBM’s XML strategies with Windows Vista. Microsoft is moving toward XML file formats for Windows Vista and Office 2007 with XPS. Rest assured companies will evaluate how databases perform with XML storage. For document re-purposing which Microsoft alludes to, there will be a need for native XML support in data management.
