Their showroom approach must have worked, since I went back today and bought an Amazon Echo. :) I also discovered that:

1) They accept returns from the store on Amazon.com, but not the other way around (so you can't return in the store items that you bought online).

2) Employees do not work on commission.

3) The most basic Kindle Fire is insanely cheap. $39.99 on sale.

4) There are no male or female bathrooms. Their restrooms are unisex.

In the process, I added some new pictures to the post. :)

I think that even operating at cost, it would essentially provide free marketing to the brand. I'm not sure about tax implications, but that's an interesting question to ask.

I agree with your comment about branding. It's a nice touch.

Haha. I'm definitely missing out on Amazon Books commissions. :)

Hi Antonio, I enjoyed the walkthrough of the store. That serif font they use throughout the store (such as the notice that informs you that prices are the same), is that the same Bookerly font that comes with Kindle? Appears to be so. That's a nice branding touch.

Just seeing the photos makes me want to visit. If I do and make a purchase, you should get an affiliate credit! ;)

Thanks again - Eric.

Thanks for the virtual visit.

Sounds like Amazon may be planning to launch a range of mini-bookstores that are high volume and highly tuned to the readership of each locale. But their master economic strategy still eludes me. Maybe there's a regulatory/tax advantage for Amazon to field a brick and mortar presence? The company is no longer just mail order?
