While many people in the community represent Merb as a competitor to Rails, Ezra and Engine Yard, Inc. have never seen it that way.

From the very first day, Merb was designed to complement Rails. It was originally a very small bit of code to address the file upload “issue” that befuddled Rails programmers in the early mists of time.

The project took on wings of it’s own, and gained a community that appreciated it’s lean and mean design principles. I’m proud of Ezra and the community for giving birth to a very beautiful and focused framework, and sticking with their design principles the entire way.

Is Merb “better” than Rails? Honestly, I don’t even know what that means! Merb is what it is, and it’s *definitely* not Rails. Engine Yard is a huge supporter of Rails, after all, each and every one of our customers use it!
